Kite Surfing & Winging
The shallow lagoon is perfect for learning kiteboarding new skills whilst the deep waters are perfect for foiling and winging. Trade winds blow April-Nov SE to E direction.
Stargazing
With almost no light pollution, stargazing is a must. Evenings around the bonfire are perfect for sharing stories and watching for shooting stars.
Island Visits
Trips to Neiafu can be arranged to visit the local market, buy local handicrafts, visit stores, or take a guided tour of the historical landmarks and lookouts in stunning Vava’u.
Swim with Whales
Each year, humpback whales journey to Tonga to mate and calve in the warm waters of Vava’u. Mounu overlooks these magical grounds. Often you can see whales directly near the Island.
Scuba Diving
Tonga has excellent scuba diving and offers a variety of dive sites, including reefs, caves, and shipwrecks. We are happy to help you coordinate dives during your visit.
Snorkeling
The famous Ana Peka Peka Cave (Swallows Cave) and Mariner’s Cave are a close distance from Mounu. You’ll be sure to have postcard worthy shots to take home with you.
Swimming with whales
Mounu Island is a remote paradise located in the stunning Vava’u archipelago of Tonga. Its seclusion is part of its charm, but getting here takes some planning. There are several routes to reach Vava’u:
Via New Zealand:
Fly from Auckland (Air New Zealand) to Nuku’alofa, then transfer to a domestic hopper flight to Vava’u.
Via Fiji:
Fiji Airways offers flights from Nadi to either Nuku’alofa or directly into Vava’u.
Via Australia:
Qantas flies from Sydney to Nuku’alofa.
Inter-island Connections:
Lulutai Airlines provides domestic flights within Tonga.

Once you arrive in Vava’u, it’s a 25-minute boat ride to Mounu Island.
